3rd floor apartment at Hunter’s Ridge Collapses

September 18, 2010

The third story of an apartment complex collapsed tonight, under the weight of all the inebriated students crammed inside.

Message to Virginia Tech administration:

This could happened here just as easily as in Harrisonburg; are you paying attention?

The New River Valley Apartment Council (NRVAC) lacks the fiscal motivation to address Blacksburg’s student drinking problem. Financial bottom lines apparently win out over moral responsibility.

“Blacksburg, the special place,” town administration have also failed to show any backbone on the issue.

The tragedy was preventable, and the results of complacency.    Gathering statistical data based on anonymous calls placed to Tech’s own “alcohol abuse tip hotline” accomplishes nothing.  We already know there’s a student drinking problem.  It’s time for VT administration to become proactive and address it.

I’m sure there will be a major political blame game in Harrisonburg on Monday.
